Birthday surprise/Mommy & Me Weekend
About two weeks ago I surprised my now 15 year old daughter with a weekend getaway unbeknownst to her. I like surprises because I get to determine everything ahead of time and she is happy because she wasn't expecting any of it. Surprises also means I don't have to answer 50-11 questions. IYKYK!
Back in January I created a contingency plan just in case Dominican Republic did not work out for the kid. Thank God I did! I started looking for places to take my daughter. I knew going out the country may not be in the cards so I started thinking about nearby states, nearby events, any activity that would peek her interests. I know the icing on the cake would be making it a girls trip! Just she and I, me and her, just the two of us.
I found an event in Tennessee that I knew she would love. I hopped on Air BNB to find a place to stay. Something reasonable, nice, and a nice vibe. My goal for this AIR BNB was ambiance and location. I like creating unique experiences even when it comes to lodging. The main event was in Knoxville I started searching and came across the perfect listing for me and my mini me.
TIME FOR THE SURPRISE
I left work early because I had a 4 hour drive ahead of me and I had to pick up the kid from school early as well. I get to the school and she's slightly perplexed. I told her to pack clothes for the weekend and bring the clothes with her to school. I explained that she would be staying with her Memaw and Memaw would not be able to stop at the house. I get the kid and I see no clothes. The kid completely forgot the clothes at the house and now we must backtrack. ANYWAYS I tell her we are headed to Tennessee just the two of us. That alone makes her happy. I enter the address on my GPS and she sees the drive is 4 hours and she asked me did my mother, her Gigi move? I'm confused, I tell her no and ask why. Her reply, "it usually takes us much longer to get to Gigi's house." I explain we are not going to Gigi's just a weekend getaway so we can have some girl time. She says ok, reclines her seat, snuggle, turn sideways, and is sound asleep. What kind of riding partner is she!?!? She sleeps the majority of the way to Tennessee only awaking to inquiry about food. SMH!
We make it to our destination and she was wonders around the Air BNB as though she is completing an inspection, lol. She reads the house rules aloud, expresses her approval, then ask where are our disinfectant products. She is my child! We disinfect the house, wipe down all the things with Lysol wipes, spray Microban on all the things, allow the house to air out and unpack our clothing for the weekend. At this point the kid asks if there was any particular reason why we chose this location, she wanted to know what was going on to cause us to chose Knoxville. I tell her no reason in particular and she buys it. We freshen up from being on the road, change clothes, and head out for dinner, or so she thinks.
As we head to the car I think it's time to tell her where she is going!
We going to see LIZZO AND LATTO!
